Data Licensing
The terms under which a dataset may be used - what you may derive from it, redistribute, train on, and keep after the contract ends.
A data license defines the permitted use of a dataset, and for alternative data it is a larger part of the purchase than buyers expect. The clauses that decide value are rarely about price: whether derived works may be redistributed, whether the data may be used to train a model, how many entities may access it, whether an evaluation period grants production rights, and what survives termination. A dataset that cannot be used the way a team actually works is expensive at any price.
The diligence sits underneath the license. A responsible provider can say where a dataset came from, that the collection was lawful in each jurisdiction, that personal information was handled correctly, and that nothing material and non-public is embedded in it - which is precisely what data provenance exists to evidence. Buyers with a compliance function will ask, and the honest answer is a document rather than a reassurance.
